8 Weeks Out- Set your moving budget and target date (mid-week if moving in ski season).

Declutter & Inventory
6 Weeks Out- Go room by room; donate, sell, or recycle what you will not move.

- Schedule any specialty handling (piano, art, safe, wine cellar).
Notify & Transfer
4 Weeks Out- File a change of address with USPS and update key accounts.
- Transfer or set up utilities at both addresses (electric, gas, internet, water/trash).
- Notify schools, banks, insurance, and subscription services.
- Confirm packing services if you booked them; otherwise gather packing supplies.
- Arrange storage if your move-in date does not line up (move-and-store bundle).
Pack & Prepare
2 Weeks Out- Begin packing non-essential rooms; label every box by room and contents.
- Pack a clearly marked "essentials" box for the first night.
- Confirm the move date, address, and access details with your mover.
- Plan winter weather contingencies and a flexible backup date if applicable.
- Arrange care for children and pets on move day.
Finalize
1 Week Out- Finish packing everything except daily essentials.
- Defrost and clean the refrigerator and freezer.
- Confirm parking, staging, and loading-zone access at both ends.
- Clear and sand driveways and walkways if snow or ice is expected.
- Withdraw cash for tips and keep important documents with you.
Move Out & In
Moving Day- Do a final walkthrough; check closets, cabinets, and storage areas.
- Be present to direct the crew and point out fragile or priority items.
- Keep the essentials box, valuables, and documents with you.
- Note the meter readings and take final photos of the empty home.
- Confirm the inventory and delivery details before the crew leaves.
