How Much Does It Cost to Hire Movers in Summit County?

Ryan ShorterMarch 27, 20263 min read

If you're planning a move in Summit County, Colorado, one of the first questions you'll ask is: how much is this going to cost? The honest answer is that pricing depends on a range of factors, and in the mountains, several of those factors push costs higher than what you'd pay in Denver or on the Front Range. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about moving company pricing in Summit County.

What Factors Affect Moving Costs in Summit County?

The most fundamental pricing variable is distance. Local moves are billed hourly, while long-distance moves are priced by weight and mileage. Home size, volume of belongings, and crew requirements all factor in.

Mountain Access Challenges

This is where Summit County diverges significantly from a typical flat-city move. Steep driveways and grades take more time and physical effort. Narrow mountain roads in Breckenridge and Keystone may limit truck size, requiring a smaller shuttle vehicle. Stairs and long carries from truck to door add labor time. At Majestic Mountain Movers, we never charge hidden fees for stairs, long carries, or mountain road access.

Seasonal Demand

Ski season (November-March) and summer (June-August) are peak demand periods with higher rates. If you have flexibility, scheduling your move in late spring or early fall often yields better availability and more competitive pricing.

How Our Pricing Works

Local Moves (Within Summit County)

For local moves, we charge hourly. The clock starts when our movers leave our office and stops when they return. For overnight moves, the clock stops at the hotel and resumes when they leave the next day. This transparent approach means you pay for actual work time.

Long-Distance Moves (Within Colorado)

Long-distance moves within Colorado follow the same hourly model. The total time depends on distance, home size, and access challenges at both locations.

Interstate Moves

Interstate moves are priced by the truckload based on distance. No mixed loads, no shuttles, no fuel surcharges — your belongings travel on a dedicated truck. We offer guaranteed pricing with guaranteed pickup and delivery dates based on your schedule.

What's Included vs. What Costs Extra

Standard move quotes include: labor (loading/unloading), moving truck and fuel for local moves, basic equipment (dollies, straps, furniture pads), and standard liability coverage.

Extras that add cost: Full packing services (hourly plus materials). Specialty items like pianos, hot tubs, pool tables, and gun safes. Short-term storage (charged by the cubic foot). Full-value replacement coverage for high-value items.

How to Get an Accurate Estimate

The most accurate estimates come from a visual assessment. A reputable moving company will offer an in-home walkthrough or video call. Show the estimator everything, including garage, basement, shed, and attic. Get at least three quotes to compare pricing and professionalism.

Understand estimate types: A binding estimate locks in the price. A non-binding estimate is an approximation. A not-to-exceed estimate sets a maximum price.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • Unusually low quotes (40-50% cheaper than everyone else is a warning sign)
  • No physical address or professional website
  • Demands for large cash deposits up front
  • Vague or verbal-only contracts
  • No proof of licensing or insurance

Why Licensing and Insurance Matter

In Colorado, all intrastate household goods movers must hold a permit from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC). For interstate moves, federal registration with the USDOT and FMCSA is required. These are your protection. A licensed, insured mover is financially accountable if something goes wrong. Before hiring any mover, ask for their PUC permit number and/or USDOT number. Verify at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.

Guys had a positive attitude and really tried to make my day! I used this company before and they didn't try to nickel and dime me like other companies.

My crew was awesome! And Josh was so easy to work with. Answered questions day and night, very responsive, and was in communication throughout. The 2 guys who moved me did a great job navigating three small spaces. They worked really hard and quickly. Best of all, my price came in hundreds lower than the estimate. I would highly recommend them!

I don't leave many reviews because I just get inundated with the request but majestic movers did a fantastic job. We are moving from a Beavercreek townhome to a Winter Park house. The team packed up the whole townhome and moved us into the Winter Park house. There was a team of three, they were so polite asked questions very respectful of the house, which I appreciated. We are a shoe free house and they accommodated that!! Things were so well packed, (I mean really well) everything came out in one piece. The movers were so helpful. A great bunch of guys that we are grateful to. I hope never to move again but would certainly use their services without thinking twice..
